Good-Bye, So Long, I’m Gone Already

Titles to text posts, by the way, have been references to the Girlysound Stratford-on-Guy, Divorce Song, and now Only Son (lyrics).

I’ve worked harder on this than on any piece of writing I have ever done before in my life, including all school assignments, and although trying to pin down five million things I think are completely genius about Liz’s work while conveying why she means so much to me has made me want to tear my hair out on occasion, it has also been a complete blast. Before I peace out of this space, some thank-yous are in order:

*To Hendrik, for letting me share my extensive feelings about Liz Phair with the world, being incredibly supportive through this week, posting for me when I was having access issues, and letting me run way over my allotted time;

*To Jonathan Bogart and Nick Minichino, for patiently listening to brainstorms and holding my hand through some freak-outs over the fact that I was actually doing this;

*To Brad Nelson and Katherine St. Asaph for emotional support (I told y’all I have a lot of Feelings);

*To all contributors, past and future, for making this place so consistently fun, fascinating, and educational;

*To you lovely people, for tuning in, reading along, being curious, hearting and reblogging things not just this week but every week — in short, for caring about what people have to say about music they love, and showing that there can be internet spaces dedicated to music that remain free of negativity; and finally

*To enaek, for reading a ridiculous number of words over the almost two months (!) I’ve been writing this, for talking me into it in the first place, for the untold hours of obsessive conversation about Liz Phair without which I never would have wound up with the things I had to say here, for introducing me to Liz way, way back when, and for always reminding me that I’ve, I’ve got time. I’m lucky to even know you.
